While attending UCSD, there were more than a few WTF/”that’s racist!” moments experienced. And it appears to continue with a fraternty’s “Compton Cookout” themed bbq:

“UCSD party mocks Black History Month”

A weekend party that involved University of California San Diego students and mocked Black History Month has drawn the ire of black students and prompted a condemnation sent to all students and faculty by the chancellor.

An invitation to the “Compton Cookout” event urged participants to wear chains, don cheap clothes and speak very loudly, according to wording circulated by outraged students and verified by campus administrators.

As a guide for girls attending the event, the invitation read, “For those of you who are unfamiliar with ghetto chicks-Ghetto chicks usually have gold teeth, start fights and drama, and wear cheap clothes…”

A Dream Realized

February 5, 2010, The New Parish in Oakland (previously known as Jimmie’s Nightclub) is filled with a diverse range of faces to celebrate and remember the life of Mike “Dream” Francisco. Three year old’s hit the floor rockin’ their best b-boy/b-girl moves along with veteran popper, Bionic Man. Older heads recollect their memories of chillin’ and mentoring the legendary graffiti writer, younger heads recall the pieces he created which inspired them to pick up a can, and his counterparts remembered the escapades.

Why I'm Cool with Pacquiao-Clottey

I’m as irate as the next boxing fan for the failure of a mega-fight between Floyd Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao on March 13. Had the fight taken place on that date, boxing history would have been made. Pay-per-view records would have been shattered. Not to mention that rarely do boxing fans ever get to witness the top pound for pound fighters meeting in the squared ring. Witnessing the buzz that surrounded the possible venues could easily have battled that of city bids on the Olympics.

But enough of wondering about “what ifs”. The fight could still take place, just not on March 13.

The 30 Rock-Filipino Connection

Around 10pm last night, I got a text from a friend asking me if I caught the new episode of 30 Rock. Another possible Filipino reference.

In search of Christmas presents for his family, Tracy Jordan goes to Yakov’s Nubian Bling Explosion. Noticing a “one of a kind” gold chain, Tracy discovers the “EGOT” chain. Worn by Philip Michael Thomas, of Miami Vice fame, it was produced in hopes of becoming the quadruple entertainer threat by winning the Emmy, Grammy, Oscar, and Tony awards. Tracy being Tracy, buys the chain and wears it throughout the show in hopes of his dream of getting an “EGOT”.

Of course y’all knew I was going to do my obligatory/celebratory Pacquiao post after picking apart Miguel Cotto.

I thought that after demolishing Hatton, it was what boxing really needed right now. So if that was the treatment to prolong boxing’s life, then this fight could potentially have been the antidote that cures and resuscitates boxing’s vegetable state. Though, restructuring the way the sport is promoted and fights are set up need to be considered as a part of the rehabilitation process.
