S.F.'s New District Attorney "Not Opposed" to Death Penalty

SAN FRANCISCO—In a round table conversation with ethnic media on Tuesday, San Francisco’s new district attorney George Gascón sounded a lot like his predecessor, Kamala Harris, with one important exception: the death penalty.
“I think the death penalty is an important tool, and a very expensive tool… not to be used lightly,” said Gascón, who was the city’s police chief until his surprise appointment in early January to become it first Latino D.A. “Certainly under my administration it will not be used lightly.
