As a foreigner, I think Thanksgiving is the great American holiday, so much better than July 4th, which is much too militaristic and self-important to be actual fun. (How can hot dogs be considered a feast food?) It’s a holiday without either presents or the deep - almost ferocious - religiosity of this country.
This holiday is about what matters; celebrating our luck at being connected to each other over a big beautiful feast in an attitude of grace and gratitude. This is America at her best.
