Bay Area Jews seeking to avoid paying hundreds of dollars for tickets to High Holy Day services next month can choose between the ultra-Orthodox and the hippie alternative, j. the Bay Area's Jewish Weekly reports.
Among the local congregations offering free attendance to Rosh Hashana and Yom Kippur services are the Chabad centers of San Francisco, Oakland and Berkeley (think long beards, black hats, side-locks and long overcoats) and Nishtar Yeshiva (think circle drumming, dancing and meditating), which is having its free services at the Baha’i Center on Valencia Street in the Mission.

Jews seeking a more traditional, free holiday observance can go to the Berkeley-Richmond JCC for the Berkeley Community High Holiday Service.
